If your dog has heatstroke, you may not know what he is feeling. You have to pay close attention to his actions and his behaviors, especially if you notice any changes to his normal behavior. If you suspect your dog has heatstroke, read on for a few signs to watch out for.

1. Panting And Drooling

If your dog is panting excessively, he's doing so in an attempt to cool himself down. If your dog is drooling or has his tongue hanging out quite a bit, he's probably in need of water and shade. Get him out of the heat and inside where it's cool, or at least in the shade. Allow him to lay on a cool floor to cool down as well. You can apply cool rags to the pads of his feet to help get him to cool down.

2. Glazed, Unfocused Eyes

If your dog is unable to focus on you, or anything, his eyes are glazed over and he is having trouble even walking straight, it may be due to heat stroke. If your dog is having these types of issues, get him water immediately and somewhere cool as soon as possible. Your dog may also need medical attention right away, as he may be in need of fluids and electrolytes via an IV, rather than having him drink them.

3. Inability To Keep Anything Down

If you've tried giving your dog water after being in the heat, and he has thrown up, it could be due to heatstroke. Try giving your dog water and food in smaller quantities. If he doesn't get any better, it's best to get him to the animal hospital to be seen right away and treated properly. If your dog continues to throw up, he could also become dehydrated and this can cause other issues for your dog, including his organs shutting down.

Heatstroke can lead to serious health issues for your dog. If you suspect your dog has heatstroke, get him out of the heat immediately and to a cool place. If he is exhibiting other signs that just aren't normal for your dog, get him to help right away.
